Peckham Town Football Club, a long-established community club based in London, has reinforced its commitment to sustainability and high-performance facilities with the acquisition of a Dennis ES-34R electric rotary mower, alongside the addition of a Dennis G860 cassette mower to its maintenance fleet.

Founded in 1982 by 13-year-old Brian Hall - who continues to serve as Chairman and assistant manager of the men’s first team - the club has grown from humble beginnings into a respected presence within grassroots football. Built on a vision inspired by the belief that every English town should have a football club at its heart, Peckham Town FC has spent more than 40 years developing both its identity and its infrastructure.
Reflecting on the club’s origins, Byran said:
“I read a book as a child and in of them it said ‘that at the heart of every English town is a football club’ and I wondered where ours was. So I decided to build one for the town.”
Operating within London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), the club has faced increasing environmental and logistical challenges. One notable impact has been the loss of use of the club’s traditional minibus, which no longer meets emissions standards. This has accelerated Peckham Town’s commitment to greener practices and more sustainable operations across all areas of the club.

The investment in Dennis ES-34R rotary mower represents a key part of that transition. Previously working with smaller, less advanced machinery, the club has steadily improved its playing surface over the years - transforming what was once an overgrown and unusable space into one of the most highly regarded pitches in the county. The introduction of professional-grade equipment marks a significant step forward in both performance and environmental responsibility.
Bryan added:
“When we first came over here, it was like a forest - there wasn’t a pitch or anything. The grass was as long as a crossbar. I took it on, bought myself a ride-on and set about cutting it. Years later, it’s now up to this level.”
The addition of the Dennis ES-34R, in particular, aligns with the club’s environmental values. As a club that actively promotes sustainability - including encouraging players and supporters to cycle to matches - the move to electric machinery was a natural progression.

“This is a massive upgrade for us,” said Bryan “We’re a green club. Having a grass cutter that is electric is a no-brainer. The noise is suddenly cut in half, pollution’s gone - it’s just a wonderful machine.”
The ES-34R has delivered immediate operational benefits, with battery performance comfortably supporting the cutting of two full pitches on a single charge with plenty of charge left over. Its intuitive controls and ease of use have also stood out.
“I’d never used a Dennis in my life. After three weeks, people think I’ve been doing it for years. The screen, everything about it, is so simple – it’s very, very easy to use.”
Alongside the ES-34R, the Dennis G860 provides additional versatility, enabling the club to maintain a consistently high-quality finish across the playing surface. Together, the machines have elevated the overall presentation of the pitch to a new standard. The impact has not gone unnoticed. Visitors entering the ground are immediately struck by the quality of the surface, with many stopping to take photos or inspect the pitch more closely.

“The minute people walk through the turnstiles, the phones come out. They’re taking pictures, even sneaking onto the pitch to check if it’s artificial -but it’s grass,” Bryan commented.
As word spreads, Peckham Town’s pitch is increasingly being recognised as one of the best in the region. Visiting teams and grounds staff frequently attend fixtures with a keen interest in the club’s maintenance practices.
“We’ve got groundsmen coming with the opposition just to see what we do. They’re asking what machine we’re using, when we’re cutting. I’m always happy to recommend Dennis.”
For Bryan, the investment also carries a sense of pride and progression. “I’ve always admired other clubs with their Dennis machines, and there was me with my little Honda. Now I’ve got a Dennis - I’m elite,” he said. “Suddenly we’re amongst Barcelona, Real Madrid, Anfield, Chelsea… New York, London, Paris, Madrid..and Peckham.”
This latest investment marks another milestone in Peckham Town Football Club’s journey — from a youth-led idea to a forward-thinking organisation embracing modern standards and sustainability. By combining tradition, community values and innovation, the club continues to set a powerful example within grassroots football.
