Dennis and SISIS recently teamed up with Jim Clarke Fine Turf Machinery and DLF Seeds to deliver a highly informative educational day at Prees Bowling Club, bringing together local bowling greenkeepers from across Shropshire to share best practice in fine turf care. Despite the wet weather, the event, which attracted a strong turnout from the regional bowls community covered a variety of key topics aimed at helping clubs improve their playing surfaces and maximise resources.
Stuart Yarwood from DLF Seeds delivered engaging theory sessions on grass seed selection and greens maintenance, highlighting the importance of choosing the right cultivars and adopting seasonal practices to ensure healthy, resilient turf and of course happy members.

Dennis and SISIS Sales Manager Ewen Wilson led a practical workshop on getting the best performance from your mower. Using a Dennis FT model, he demonstrated essential set-up techniques including cylinder-to-bottom blade adjustment, height of cut adjustment and backlapping. Ewen also provided valuable insights into grant funding opportunities, outlining how clubs can access financial support for essential machinery and maintenance projects.

The day concluded with a lively Turf Clinic Q&A session, where attendees were able to put their questions directly to the experts and discuss practical challenges faced on the greens.
Ewen Wilson commented:
“These events are all about sharing knowledge and giving clubs confidence in the maintenance practices that can make a real difference to surface quality. We were delighted with the turnout at Prees Bowling Club and the positive feedback from attendees.”
Dennis and SISIS continue to support grassroots sport by providing hands-on education and guidance to greenkeepers, ensuring that clubs of all sizes can achieve the highest standards of turf care.
